Our guest blogger today is Joanna Jewett, Director of Development for Arc of Onondaga. We asked Joanna to tell us how she feels about Arc being one of the beneficiaries of The Summit Federal Credit Union Taste of Syracuse. If you go, be sure to stop by The Summit’s tent to help support Arc of Onondaga and our other beneficiary, Elmcrest Children’s Center!
News that Arc of Onondaga was chosen as one of the two organizations that will benefit from this year’s Taste of Syracuse was met with nearly unprecedented excitement from our staff and the people with developmental disabilities whom we have the privilege to support! Everyone knows and loves the event – the food, the music and the fun. The volunteer sign-up for the event was filled within a couple hours of being shared with our program managers, because everyone wants to be a part of one of the most exciting events in Central New York this June 7th and 8th!
Being involved in Taste of Syracuse will not only provide Arc of Onondaga with a financial benefit, for which we are truly grateful, but it will also give the people we support the chance to be part of one of the community’s biggest and best events by volunteering their time. Volunteering is a big part of Arc of Onondaga’s mission, as we strive for community inclusion for people of all abilities.
Giving back to our community is extremely important to us. Most of the people who attend our Day Habilitation programs volunteer throughout the community. Currently, the people who receive support from Arc of Onondaga volunteer for Meals on Wheels, the Salvation Army, Helping Hounds Dog Rescue, at area hospitals and libraries, and the SPCA.
We love to see how proud the people we support are when they talk about what they do for our community, and Taste of Syracuse is sure to be one of their most memorable experiences.
We hope that you’ll come experience it with us, and we are beyond grateful to The Summit Federal Credit Union for this extraordinary opportunity. We can’t wait!
